Last Day

Friday was our last day of our trip. It was raining in the morning so we slept in, ate a late breakfast and then packed up to check out. Once it cleared up, we played a round of mini golf and then relaxed by the pool all afternoon. Later that afternoon we headed back to Kahului. We did a little shopping before going to dinner at Da Kitchen again. We weren't adventurous with our eating this time and both got a burger. We stopped at Krispy Kreme before returning our rental car and checking in at the airport for our 2130 flight.

Ready to get home to the boys

I slept most of the 5.5 hour flight and Jason watched movies. We had a person sit in between us on the exit row. I wanted a window seat and Jason wanted the aisle seat so we decided not to switch! We got to see the sunrise from the airplane.

We only had a hour layover before catching our flight to Minneapolis. I slept most of this 3.5 hour flight, too. Jason dozed off a little bit, too. We had a 1.5 layover so we had lunch at Chick Fil A before catching our final plane to Des Moines. Once in Des Moines we drove straight home to some very excited boys! We were so glad to see them. Grampa and Granna had a delicious supper for us shortly after getting home!

More Makena

Thursday morning we slept in and had our huge breakfast again.

 

 

After breakfast, we hung out at the pool for a bit and ventured into the ocean at the resort. The beaches south of the resort were going to reopen at 1200 so we planned on going back to Secret Beach. We watched the NFL draft by the pool.

After watching more of the draft, we set off for Secret Beach.

 

 

 

 

 

We went back to the resort for the evening.

 I did laundry and Jason set up the video camera and IPad to record the sunset.

We went to Tommy Bahama Restaurant for appetizers and dessert since it was so late.

Pool Day

On Wednesday we set out to repeat the day before. This time we were going to rent a beach chair so we stopped at the resort rentals before leaving. The lady told us that the beaches south of the resort were closed due to a shark incident that morning. At breakfast we heard an ambulance go by and said that sounds like it's going away from town to the beach. Well, it turned out to be a fatal shark attack about a mile away from where we were swimming the day before!

This is the beach the shark attack occurred. She was snorkeling about 200 yards off shore. 

 Now our repeat beach day turned into a pool day!

It turned out good to be under the umbrella by the pool because it didn't allow us to get more sunburnt. We stayed by the pool for awhile and then went back to our room for lunch and to cool off. That evening we went to Kahului for dinner, shopping and to exchange our car rental. For the first week, Jason had enough points to rent a Mercedes convertible for free.

We ate dinner at Da Kitchen and had some good Hawaiian food. I had the Hawaiian plate and Jason ate Pele’s Chili  Moco.

Hamburger, chili, onions, cheese, salsa, two eggs, brown gravy. Katsu Moco Hamburger, Katsu, 2 eggs, onion. He couldn't eat half of it!

Secret Beach

Tuesday morning we slept in and ate an enormous breakfast at the resort.

We went back to Secret Beach. It was so beautiful and relaxing! I brought a book to read while Jason took pictures.

Yes, I looked up every once in awhile and put the book down to enjoy our beach day!

Just as I got back to reading, I told Jason to holler at me if he sees any dolphins, sharks, and whales. He spotted a sea turtle not long after I said that!

 

 

 

 

 

 

There was a swimsuit model and photographer there, too. 

We went swimming, too. I got out after getting beat up by the waves one too many times. Jason stayed out and at one point thought he brushed up against a rock until it moved, the sea turtle was back!

We FaceTimed with the boys and Grampa while we were there. We spent most of the afternoon at the beach!

When we finally left our beach spot, we stopped at a food truck for a snack and then went back to the resort. We got cleaned up and then went back to Monkeypod for dinner. After dinner, we shopped for a bit. We were wiped out after our long beach day!

Makena

It rained most of the night Sunday night and was still rainy on Monday morning. We were going to drive the southern loop around the island but it was just too dangerous because of the rain. Instead, we drove the Road to Hana back and then went to Makena.

It was crazy to see how much difference the waterfalls were after the rain!

We stopped for lunch at Monkeypod in Wailea. We had a few hours to kill before check in so we drove around Makena to the very southern tip of Maui. We stopped at Secret Beach. It was beautiful!

 

 

We then drove through the lava fields at Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve.

 

 

 Next we went to check in at the Makena Beach and Golf Resort. Our home for the next four nights!

 

 

For supper we kept it simple and went out for burger/fries!

We got back in time to watch the sunset from our balcony.
